Repeal Closed Primaries

Join the overwhelming majority of PA voters who favor repealing closed primaries.

Every spring, Pennsylvania's voters head to the polls for the Commonwealth's primary elections.

But not everyone is included in this process. That’s because primaries are closed in Pennsylvania.  More than 1.1 million taxpaying independent voters are denied their right to vote in these elections, despite paying their share of $75 million a year to fund them.

It’s time to #RepealClosedPrimaries and allow every legally registered voter to cast a ballot in PA’s primary.

74% of Pennsylvanians support repealing closed primaries - including strong majorities of independents, Democrats, and Republicans.

Repealing closed primaries would guarantee a more fair process, increase the competitiveness of races, and help limit the amount of extremism and gridlock on both sides.

Open primaries bring Independent voters into the election process earlier. The two party system currently in place is archaic and a clear failure. Ranked Choice Voting is an additional step towards better selection of legislative representation.

I don’t like how people feel they have to choose a party to vote for president. I believe that if independents have a chance to vote in the primaries, more reasonable politicians will make it to the Nov elections and people will have the opportunity to vote for who they believe is better, instead of who they believe is less bad for this country.

I think with more reasonable options, there will be more reasonable politicians in congress and as presidents. Therefore, many issues with partisanship will abate because there will be higher diversity of views and ideas for solutions in congress, making America a better place to live.

I believe many citizens could find confidence in our political system again and pride in being American. And because America has so much worldwide power, it would improve relations with foreign governments and bring more peice to all humanity on Earth.
