Every spring, Pennsylvania's voters head to the polls for the Commonwealth's primary elections.

But not everyone is included in this process. That’s because primaries are closed in Pennsylvania. More than 1.4 million taxpaying independent voters are denied their right to vote in these elections, despite paying their share of $75 million a year to fund them.

It’s time to #RepealClosedPrimaries and allow every legally registered voter to cast a ballot in PA’s primary.

77% of Pennsylvanians support repealing closed primaries - including strong majorities of independents, Democrats, and Republicans.

Repealing closed primaries would guarantee a more fair process, increase the competitiveness of races, and help limit the amount of extremism and gridlock on both sides.

I have always thought that the political part system is one if the biggest issues with government in this country. Shutting out those of us that choose not to affiliate with a party from the primaries I feel is dangerously close to discrimination. It most definitely needs to be changed.

The inability to vote in primary elections are the reason I’m no longer registered as an independent. I fully support this movement!

The only reason I’m registered with a party is so I can vote in primaries.

This is also important so that independent voters have more of an opportunity to vote on constitutional amendments when they appear only on primary ballots. The state legislature is currently trying to push through an amendment that explicitly excludes any abortion care from being a right. If this would appear on a primary ballot, then many registered independents will miss out since there would otherwise be no reason to show up to the polls.

Agree that Independents should have a means to vote at primary time.

But I disagree with allowing them to vote in the party primaries. I don’t want to see party choices diluted by ‘unfaithful’ non-party voters.

I’d much rather see a separate track established for Independents wherein they can vote for all contenders in all parties. In this case, rank-choice voting might be especially appropriate to enable Independents to clearly register their choices, regardless of party.

I recrecently relocated to PA and was not aware of this Law. I was not aware that Legal Voters in our Country who are not registered to either Party are being denied their Constitutional Right To Cast Their Vote in Primary Elections, in Crucial Elections!!! This Petition Definitely Needs to be pushed through ASAP!!!!!
